The BIRR Guidebook is an important milestone in the history of Australian Muslim youth.
The guidebook will be available in print and on the internet, as well as advertised via radio in June 2008 (the exact date will be announced here). It will cover:
- Islam’s history and community-building role in civic life
- Theological and political counter arguments against extremist ideologies
- The BIRR Mentoring Program
- ‘Best practice guidelines’ for building identity and resisting radicalisation amongst Muslim youth
- A proposed framework for community action to equip Islamic societies, mosques, parents, and youth with the necessary information and skills guidelines needed to deal with negative religious tendencies amongst youth.
An extensive consultation process has been entered into with academics and religious scholars in both Australia and abroad in order for this guidebook to deliver much potential. It will be an added tool to countering forms of extremism that have been presented as acceptable to a growing population of Australian Muslim youth.
